Miami, also known as the “Magic City,” is known the world over for its South Florida weather, beaches, lifestyle, shopping, culture and connection to the Latin American community. This energetic overture allows the listener to enjoy the sparkling skyline from a rollicking speedboat on Biscayne Bay; the main theme is actually a musical representation of the height of buildings on the waterfront. The mood changes as we disembark at Vizcaya to take a stroll through the gardens that surround the magnificent 1916 waterfront estate. The elegant Danzon references the Cuban community that influences so much of the region’s culture. The opening tempo returns with a thematic variation offering a nod to Miami’s vibrant nightlife before taking us to our boat for the short trip home.
Magic City Montage was commissioned by the Greater Miami Symphonic Band, Thom Proctor, President and Robert Longfield, Music Director, commemorating the 40th anniversary of this outstanding ensemble.
