When commissioning this piece for the New Horizons Band of the Lakes Region, their director, Debbi Gibson, asked that it be dedicated to the founder of the group, Mary Divers, who had recently passed away. Mary was described as a player of the euphonium and trumpet who loved marches, her church, and conducting the church's handbell choir.
The composition is written in two parts. The opening section of the piece is inspired by the wonderful melodies of so many hymns, and includes important parts for the bells, chimes and euphonium. The second half of the piece is a march, again featuring euphonium and bells with some trumpet fanfares. It is my hope that this tuneful piece will reflect some of Mary's favorite things while providing fond memories for all who knew her well.
